Time Tripper and The doctor

As I reported last month, Paul Smith passed away. I was recently asked to look through his miniatures and offer suggestions for their disposal. The figures below have made their way to my home.

While going through his collection, I discovered some figures I had originally donated for the Time Tripper game we ran back in 2019. These included a TARDIS along with a squad of Daleks (purchased from Black Tree Design) which Paul had painted for the event, as well as a Canadian Forces section from the Canadian manufacturer Full Battle Rattle, painted by Les.

The original SPI Time Tripper board game revolved around a US squad "unstuck in time" from the jungles of Vietnam in the late 1960s. For our updated tabletop version, we modified the scenario to feature troops representing the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) operating in the mountains of Afghanistan in the first decade of the 21st century.

At this time I am unable to confirm if Full Battle Rattle are still open.

Doctor Who - 25/28mm

The other day I had reason to search my blog for some pictures of the good doctor. It would seem that they never made it onto the blog for whichever reason. I suspect I was using some other form of anti-social media and never posted them here.

The first and second Doctors

IMO your favorite doctor is the one of your youth. Here I show my age, I remember rushing home after school to catch a glimce of their adventures on the CBC in the early to mid 1960s. William Harnell and Patrick Troughton were the doctors that left a lasting imprint on my young imagination. And who could forget the metal nazis repeating their letter E mantra.

I lost interest by the time of the fourth doctor, but followed the reboot staring Chris Eccleston to Matt Smith until once again my attention flagged. One of my favorite episodes with David Tennant, as the doctor in The Family of Blood. I liked the idea of an army of animated scarecrows. These minis below are TWDCSP10 Scary Scarecrows by the The Woodbine Design Company through the Gripping Beast website.

Inspector Spacetime, Not!!

Located in the Town of Mount-Royal/ Ville Mont-Royal is a red telephone booth. Directions to reach it using public transit can be found here. I am not sure if this is a true picture or not, I have passed by a couple of time but have never stopped to take a photo.

The reason I bring this up is as a household, we have recently started watching Community during our supper hour. We have gone through stages. Rowan Atkinson in Maigret, Jeeves and Wooster with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, as examples of our viewing tastes. This is my first experience with Community and earlier this week I was introduced to Inspector Spacetime.

It reminded me I had recently acquired a new TARDIS from Black Tree Design. The previous one was resin, and has been travelling since taking part in a Time Tripper Game at Cangames in Ottawa in 2019. She will return when ready.

This is a nice metal model, which came in 5 pieces, So as I titled this post, Inspector Spacetime, Not!!

Spartacus: A Game of Blood and Treachery

Spartacus: A Game of Blood and Treachery is a fast paced board game set in Ancient Rome. The game includes backstabbing schemes, fierce bidding and bloody gladiatorial combat. It is designed for 3-4 players.

Game Box
Among the many playing pieces included in the game are four plastic Gladiator figures that look to be about 28mm scale. The expansion, The Serpents and the Wolf, allows up to 6 players in the game and includes two additional Gladiator figures.

I was introduced to the game at Stack Académie III, a local weekend long board gaming event held last May. I thoroughly enjoyed playing the game and picked up both it and the expansion for my bi-weekly Friday night gaming group. We were going to play it last month but ended up with 5 players.  I had just ordered the expansion, so we played Eclipse instead.

So if all goes according to plan tonight is the night and the figures are painted.

I also had a wicked idea and present Spartacus: The Bad Wolf Clan for the games….
