Saga Arab/Saracen/Moors Warband

This was a SAGA warband that I picked up in November 2024 on the Facebook Marketplace. I have been meaning to rebase some of my own DBX based Saracens to provide greater flexibility, due to the revisions between the older Cross and Crescent and the more recent Age of Crusades supplements. Based upon the troops mustered this warband looks like it was for the earlier supplement. I just need to paint up or rebase some more cavalry figures.  The figures themselves are a mix of Victrix and Gripping Beast hard plastic miniatures.

28mm Scots Auld Alliance Warband SAGA

This will be the majority of mounted figures in my next Age of Chivalry Scots Warband. It was the Victrix Miniatures Medieval Knights package which contains 18 x Knights and fully barded horses. Again I am blown away by the scope of figures available in hard plastic. I still lean towards the choice of  metal figures, however the pose and energy of these figures attracted me. I have three units of  Levy Archers by Claymore casting, but happy to have them joined relatively inexpensively by 2 units of mounted warriors.

Gaelic Warband Chariots

Today I received three completed Victrix Miniature Celtic Chariots. These figures upgun both my SAGA warband or Clash of Spears forces. A happy addition.

WIP - Numidian Field Force - New Directions Part 4

The second unit of Javelin men is now finished and what will pass as my command stand is drying under the lights. Everyone goes into action in about three hours time. Wish me luck.

Work continues to get my Numidians ready for action for Sunday's Clash of Spears gameday, A quick photo of the first unit of infantry.

Numidian Spearmen.

The 2nd unit is still being worked upon. In the background of the first photo below are the crew of an elephant also being painted. It is part of a Greek Warband for SAGA.

WIP - Numidian Field Force - New Directions Part 2

My 2nd unit of Cavalry nears a state of readiness required for the Clash of Spears day taking place at the Abyss on October 5th. A photo of the figures drying under a lamp. The plastic Victrix figures were glued into Wargames Atlantic, recessed 50mm oval bases. White glue and Krautcover Scenics Soil of Sparta were used as a filler.

SAGA - Dark Age Archers

A second entry into the AHPC this week. Early last summer, I received some Dark Age Gripping Beast plastic miniatures, in a zip locked baggie as part of a purchase. I finally  got around to painting a Unit of Levy Archers.

In addition to the archers, I completed another two elements of pack mules, pulled from the mountain of lead.

For my final entry is a LOTR figure, but I really don't know what it is. I was unable to match it up against the current Games Workshop website. On the AHPC XIII blog it was identified as one of the Twilight Ringwraiths. These are the pale versions of the Nazgûl, which appear to Frodo, when he places the Ring of Power on his finger during the Battle of Weathertop.

Numidian War Elephants

Last weekend I spent about 4 hours to apply the decals to my Victrix War Elephants to complete this submission for the AHPC XIII. I would have sworn I had ordered two packs of Little Big Man Numidian Elephant transfers, but it looks like I have one Numidian and one Carthaginian. In any case the elephants are ready and the Carthaginian Elephants are obviously plunder or trophies.

My first elephant took the longest and I learnt from my errors. Somewhere along the line I lost one of the little corner square decals and caused a dogeared effect on one of the hawdah's side panels. Live and learn. Two much detail for my thick and clumsy fingers, which at times are all thumbs.

Numidian Field Force Part A - Cavalry Unit

I finally got around to working on both the crewmen for my elephants and the Victrix Miniatures pack of Numidian cavalry that I picked up. These is part of a new project to build an Art de la Guerre Numidian Army. This is part A as only the cavalry component is ready today. I still need to apply decals to the elephants. It was my fourth entry in this years AHPC.

I decided to use 60mm x 60 mm bases for each element of this unit. The figures themselves have a plastic base which is almost 50mm long and would overlap a standard 60mm x 40mm base. I didn't have any 60mmx50mm MDF elements in my supplies.

I like the look, and but am not sure how it will be for game play.  The figures exude movement.

WIP - Numidian Field Force Part 2

I finally got around to working on both the crewmen for my elephants and the Victrix pack of Numidian cavalry that I picked up. I hope to post all in time for my Wednesday slot with the AHPC XIII.

WIP - Numidian Field Force

Last August when I was out east on vacation I purchased a pack of African War Elephants by Victrix from Lantzalot Game Store in Blockhouse. I have been wanting to see these up close since they first became available and at the store I made an impulse purchase.  On my 2nd trip to the shop for a Bolt Action game day, I acquired a 2nd package and arranged to have my purchases of the day shipped directly to my address in Montreal.

I knew that I had some Numidian Light Cavalry from Old Glory Miniatures that were already painted. They have been seconded to my Roman Army, but now they are the start of another field force. I already had some Victrix Greek Archers and Balearic Slingers in the pile of shame that could be allocated to this project.

My intension is to have the Elephants completed within the next two weeks.

DARK AGES - Welsh

I received these figures back in April when I purchased some Early War Bolt Action French and Germans. The lot consisted mostly of Victrix Dark Age figures but it include 5 metal figures which I took to be a command group. I finished these last night. I am afraid I do not know the manufacturer. My plan is for a SAGA Warband. Saga rules are available from Gripping Beast.

New Lease on Life - Part II

Work continues on this project. The generals and four phalanx stands are complete. Pike added and basing and flocking complete. Ten more stands to go.

Yesterday while waiting for the glue to harden I opened a box of  Victrix Dark Age figures I acquired locally. Bonus!! At the bottom lay 10 metal cavalry  figures, although with just five mounts. Years ago I purchased 36 plastic generic horses from Wargames Factory (now part of Warlord Games) for such occasions and still had about a dozen prepped for use.

It also included an additional 5 metal foot figures, who stand upon the box in which they came.

Most of the work on these figures yesterday was drilling through the hands so I could add their spears. Since they lacked weapons I trimmed some of the extra plastic spare parts that came with the Victrix purchase. I have a pill bottle filled with bits and pieces that were strewn about the bottom of the box.

The really great thing about this Dark Age purchase was the figures were pre assembled and already mounted. They also came a pile of Little Big Man transfers so I am really happy with this score.
