WIP 10mm Republican Roman Army

Getting a 10mm Republican Roman army based and ready is a great way to stay ahead of the club arms race, especially since 10mm provides fantastic rank-and-file mass on the table without requiring a massive playing area. I commenced to base the army that I received early in the spring, brough to life by Old Guard Painters. The figures being Pendraken Republican Roman Army Pack.

The more I look at the figures, the more I am thinking it might just be an ADLG army to play with.

CanGames 2026 - Sunday May 17th

2PM Sunday afternoon I signed up for the every popular Doctor Who Skirmish game, Brian Hearnden has been hosting a Doctor Who game at Cangames since 2008. It was the first year I played. This year he was using Pulp Alley to run the game. It was my second game for this system.

The fourth Doctor and campanions.

Each league begins equidistant from the centre.

Join Doctor Who and his allies or play his enemies as they fight to control the course of time and events. Each player controls 3 figures in an interactive Pulp alley skirmish game trying to win victory by achieving plot points and foiling opponents.  As the newbie to the Doctor Who game, I was given the Doctor to play.

The scenario is Horror at Fang Rock

The creepy-crawlies are the Rutan. 

The Rutan have taken control of the lighthouse.

They seek to use the genearator to power a beacon 

for an invasion fleet to home in on.

I had a great time. It was the first time I played in the Doctor Who game, I don't think it will be the last.

7PM 15mm Sunday night is the time slot reserved for the hard core gamers. The site is emptying out as fellow participates pack it in and head home. I stayed for the Art de la Guerre 100 point, 3 rounds, single list tournament. This year if was the Mesopotamian Empires and their enemies. Last year it was 200 points played over two seesions. I once again made use of a loaner army, Thank you Todd. 

I played using a Oman and Gulf States (Army List 19). First round I went up against Martin Roweland and his Sumerian List 1 force. He wiped the board with me. Second round I played against Mike Ireland and his Achaemenid Persian (Army List 64). In the final match I played against Robert Hanks who also ran with a Sumerian Army.  Both my second and third match we ran out of time but I won by points, enough so that I didn't return home with my third wooden spoon in as many years.

Art de la Guerre is not a game set we play at the Montreal club. Our focus tends towards SAGA, next year the plan is for 100 points late medieval. I have an army and I will pull it out out storage and start moving figures on my own tabletop.

Numidian War Elephants

 Last weekend I spent about 4 hours to apply the decals to my Victrix War Elephants to complete this submission for the AHPC XIII. I would have sworn I had ordered two packs of Little Big Man Numidian Elephant transfers, but it looks like I have one Numidian and one Carthaginian. In any case the elephants are ready and the Carthaginian Elephants are obviously plunder or trophies.

My first elephant took the longest and I learnt from my errors. Somewhere along the line I lost one of the little corner square decals and caused a dogeared effect on one of the hawdah's side panels. Live and learn. Two much detail for my thick and clumsy fingers, which at times are all thumbs.

Numidian Field Force Part A - Cavalry Unit

 I finally got around to working on both the crewmen for my elephants and the Victrix Miniatures pack of Numidian cavalry that I picked up. These is part of a new project to build an Art de la Guerre Numidian Army. This is part A as only the cavalry component is ready today. I still need to apply decals to the elephants. It was my fourth entry in this years AHPC.

I decided to use 60mm x 60 mm bases for each element of this unit. The figures themselves have a plastic base which is almost 50mm long and would overlap a standard 60mm x 40mm base. I didn't have any 60mmx50mm MDF elements in my supplies. 

I like the look, and but am not sure how it will be for game play.  The figures exude movement. 

WIP - Numidian Field Force Part 2

 I finally got around to working on both the crewmen for my elephants and the Victrix pack of Numidian cavalry that I picked up. I hope to post all in time for my Wednesday slot with the AHPC XIII.

Roman Carroballista - Part III - Completed

 I am very happy with the the final results. The merging of 30 year old Ral Partha/RAFM war machines that were rusting away in my private junkyard, crewed by some superb looking Essex Miniatures, all around or mounted on ox carts purchased from Warlord Games.

 The final six stands are finished. I have added what pike that I could. These figures are what I believed to be original Hinchiffe Models from the early 1970s. I am sure there were 25mm figures of the day, but IMO are 20mm. I hope that converting them to L'Art de la Guerre rules will allow them to once again see the light of day.

New Lease on Life - Part III

 Being of an age where it is not uncommon to be up at 3:00 AM for a call on nature, this morning I used the time to finish another block of pike. Flocking and tuffs were added last night before dinner. Since I was awake anyway, might just as well use 30 minutes to advance a project with the addition of the pike. Six more stands to go. Back to bed.

New Lease on Life - Part II

Work continues on this project. The generals and four phalanx stands are complete. Pike added and basing and flocking complete. Ten more stands to go.

Yesterday while waiting for the glue to harden I opened a box of  Victrix Dark Age figures I acquired locally. Bonus!! At the bottom lay 10 metal cavalry  figures, although with just five mounts. Years ago I purchased 36 plastic generic horses from Wargames Factory (now part of Warlord Games) for such occasions and still had about a dozen prepped for use. 

 It also included an additional 5 metal foot figures, who stand upon the box in which they came. 

Most of the work on these figures yesterday was drilling through the hands so I could add their spears. Since they lacked weapons I trimmed some of the extra plastic spare parts that came with the Victrix purchase. I have a pill bottle filled with bits and pieces that were strewn about the bottom of the box. 

The really great thing about this Dark Age purchase was the figures were pre assembled and already mounted. They also came a pile of Little Big Man transfers so I am really happy with this score.
